Video: Air travel getting a little easier

>>> across the country are working hard to make the flying experience here on earth a little less stressful from the security aligned to dealing with jam-packed planes and delays. you know flag can sometimes be difficult. new businesses are popping up in and around the terminal. you may be surprised of what you see here in your next layover. we get the story from nbc's john yang .

>> reporter: getting from point a to point b by plane these days often means a lot of time at point c. long layovers, late connections, and those weather delays. at the atlanta airport rick nelson spent a recent layover in a rented private cubicle right off the ncrse. a company called minute suites rents them for $30 an hour. they're sound-proof and have a tv for entertainment, a desk for working, and for napping a daybed. nelson spends about eight hours a week in airports often trying to work in a crowded gate.

>> how does this compare to that?

>> 100% better. that's for sure.

>> reporter: right now minute suites are in atlanta and philadelphia and plan to open later this year in dallas and minneapolis. more than half their clientele are business travellers.

>> they really want to decompress and just be in a very relaxing, private setting.

>> reporter: stressed road warriors are finding more options at airports. at minneapolis-st. paul, the airports marked a 1.4 mile walking trail . companies like express spa have airport locations that offer massages. passengers in san francisco international airport can work out the kinks in a yoga room.

>> having an opportunity to do five to ten minutes when i already have time and have to wait has been nice. very nice.

>> reporter: and a website tracks gyms near airports like this 24 hour fitness, a 15 minute cab ride from dallas- fort worth airport. as they compete to get more travellers in the air, they're paying more attention and money on amenities on the ground. airlines report growing demand for their airport lounges. most offer full bars and work stations. this delta lounge in atlanta has a quiet room and even showers for weary travellers.

>> they're finding that this is the place, the oasis and the haven from the maddening crowd in the terminal.

>> reporter: just one of the ways travellers are trying to find peace and quiet. john yang , nbc news, atlanta .
