Tasweek to outline strengths of UAE market at region's premier ...

Cityscape Global has been a catalyst for real estate investment and development growth across the world's emerging markets for more than a decade. This year's edition will welcome over 20,000 participants who will grab the opportunity to build and maintain their presence across the regional markets. Al Awar will use the event as a platform to showcase the real estate strengths of the UAE, particularly its main markets of Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

The Tasweek head will explain his company's extensive experience as an international property developer and investor and compare the advantages of international markets. He will also recommend strategies to sustain and accelerate business growth.

During Cityscape Global, Al Awar will conduct conference sessions on 'Sovereign Wealth and Strategic Partnerships' and 'Dubai on the World Stage,' where he will discuss how to form profitable and stable joint venture partnerships between local and foreign investors and reveal strategies for drawing international investors back to Dubai.

"In our previous studies, Tasweek has shown that the Dubai and Abu Dhabi markets are still steadily working their way towards recovery. Cityscape Global is a perfect platform to show the world that the UAE is still an outstanding destination for property investments and developments and will pay huge dividends to those who position themselves in strategic partnerships and projects. We also look forward to sharing our company's expertise and sharp market insights to help those who intend to do serious business with the Middle East," said Al Awar.

In its latest comprehensive market research, Tasweek noted a slight rally in some of Dubai's prime real estate locations. With thousands of real estate investors, developers, financiers, architects, consultants and other real estate professionals set to troop to Cityscape Global, Tasweek is gearing up to help energize the local markets through the end of 2012 and beyond.
Cityscape Global 2012 is the 11th edition of the essential business-to-business networking exhibition and conference for emerging real estate markets globally.

??? They Didn't ! Japanese Entertainment News - Bagel Head ...

bagel-head

Bagel head - a "supposedly" new popular fashion trend in Japan which Western social media sites have glorified thanks to the National Geographic "Taboo" episode that studies and scrutinizes the bizarre beauty saline-injection. But according to many Japanese social media sites, such Western reports on "bagel heads" completely distort and fabricate a "wacky Japanese fashion trend" which doesn't even truly exist. According to the popular subculture blogger and television host La Carmina, many Japanese people didn't even know about "bagel head" until reports from overseas began hitting the net.

Here is a quick recap on bagel head, which hit the cyber world by storm this past week: basically, approximately 13.5 oz. of saline are injected into the forehead to create a large blob. The saline-administrator then places his/her thumb into the large mass to create the indentation. The procedure takes two hours and the bagel head look last less than a day (about 16 hours). The look was pioneered by Japanese artist Keroppy and has been deemed "one of the newest, biggest trends in Japan's body modification art scene" by many Western news outlets. The Japanese fashion trend was featured on a recent episode of "Taboo," a series which takes an "educational look into 'taboo' rituals and traditions practiced in some societies, yet forbidden and illegal in others."

But according to Japanese media, this is the first time many people actually living in Japan have even heard of the bagel head trend. According to a blog post on Japan Times, the Western media have merely "yet again conjured up a 'Big in Japan' trend."

La Carmina and her multimedia team "the Pirates" actually did most of the heavy-duty work involving the "Taboo" episode on bagel heads. According to La Carmina, the trend was extremely exaggerated in the popular television series: "It is not a trend even among the most hardcore body modification types. It's expensive. It takes specialized equipment. Most Japanese people don't even know about it."

While La Carmina has blogged about the bagel head and other Japanese fashion trends for years, she insists, "There's a strong, supportive subculture in Japan who are into trying new things. It's just another method of expression, like piercings or tattoos, but it is certainly not a trend. It is absolutely not permanent. It lasts for a night and then you pee it out."

A reporter for Excite News agrees, stating, "Having never heard of 'bagel head' I was as surprised as anyone to see these pictures of young people. A perfectly cute forehead transformed by a grotesque swelling. It looks quite like a space alien. I shudder to think, but according to news sites all over, this is Japan's latest trend?"

A pal of La Carmina was hoping the National Geographic study on the bagel head trend would help lead Westerners to a greater understanding of underground, Japanese cultures. But it seems like "understanding" just means glorification and amusement - "If you say something on the Internet about Japan," he points out, "people tend to believe it."

PFT: Broncos not worried about Peyton's slow start

350x-1Getty Images

Wayne Elliott has had a wild week.

On Monday night, he wore the white hat as the referee of the crew that bungled the Seahawks-Packers game.? On Friday night, Elliott worked a high school football game.

In the interim, Elliott says his phone has been ringing with calls from angry fans, telling him he should ?commit suicide? and that he ?should die.?

But he still believes it was the right call.

?The replay guy just said there is nothing here that we can use to overturn it. It?s going to stand,? Elliott told FOX7 in Austin.? (This confirm that, when it came to replay reviews during the lockout, non-replacement replay officials were actually usurping the authority of the on-field referees.)

As we recently explained, via the NFL?s rulebook and casebook, there was enough evidence to overturn the ruling on the field, because Packers safety M.D. Jennings had ?control? of the ball before Seahawks receiver Golden Tate, which is the key factor regardless of what happens as they land on the ground and wrestle for the ball.? (Sorry, Seahawks truthers, but that?s the truth.)

Elliott also said he has ?no regrets? about accepting the assignment as a replacement, and that it was ?the most fun I?ve ever had.?

It was the most fun he?s had because he has been working as an official at the lower levels of the sport since 1978.? The fact that he hadn?t risen to the NFL or to a high-end college conference in the past 34 years tells us all we need to know about his overall skills.? As we?ve said time and again, if the replacements were among the best of the best, they would have been among those who were locked out.

Elliott declined to apologize to the fans of the Packers, explaining that if the call had gone the other way people would be asking if he should apologize to the Seahawks fans.

Scheduled to work the Vikings-Lions game in Week Four, Elliott said he wanted to ?get the bad taste out of his mouth? from Monday night?s game ? you know, the one for which he has nothing about which to apologize.

GCD Communications: Graduation thesis speech at NIS | Tomomi's ...

At my previous school, Nishimachi International School, it is a tradition for all graduating students (grade 9) to write an essay in Japanese on the topic of the students? choice, and give a 10 minute speech to the next graduating class as well as some of the faculty members.

My first language is Japanese, and English being the second language shows that I am bilingual, and could communicate in both languages fluently. ?Taking Japanese classes was required for every student at NIS so I took the course, but ?I still take Japanese classes after I transferred to YIS. ?(I have taken two language courses for at least 2 years). ?My thesis was ?Should euthanasia be legal??, a topic which I was very interested and curious about. ?Because I was satisfied with my essay, I also wanted to give a good speech. ?I experimented with different uses of language and ways of speaking, and tried to see what was the best way of persuading my ideas. ?I knew that my voice was quiet, so during the actual speech, I tried my best to speak up and talk clearly. ?I was nervous not only because other students were listening, but because the faculty members were there as well to make judgements and ask me questions after the speech.

After the speech, I received some positive feedbacks. ?My friends were surprised at how loud my voice was, and they said that it was easy to understand what I was saying. ?I felt that I achieved one of my goals, and that was a big step to improving my weak points. ?Many people told me that I caught their attention. ?It was one of my plans to be the first person to give the speech, and hence leave the audience with a strong impression by talking about a very serious topic. ?I also thought that my role in speech making session was quite important, because this was a relatively formal event and I had the responsibility to lead how the presentations flow.

(The school has taken a video of me making the speech. ?However, when I contacted one of my teachers, she said that the videos cannot be prepared immediately.)

Report: Apple?s Pandora-Killer Hits Licensing Trouble With Sony/ATV

itunes logoOne rumor that was nearly forgotten amid the iPhone 5's launch and iOS 6 media circus was that Apple was reportedly looking to release a Pandora-killer soon. The streaming music service would be a natural next step in the progression Apple's taken with digital music, but it looks like licensing issues may have stepped in the way once again.

What?s the Difference Between Life and Death?

A 1728 oil painting by Cornelis Troost depicting an anatomy lesson using a cadaver. A 1728 oil painting by Cornelis Troost depicting an anatomy lesson using a cadaver

Amsterdam Museum/Wikimedia Commons.

Two hundred years ago, a Scottish medical student named Robert Christison watched a human vivisection.

It was inadvertent; the subject was meant to be dead. But in the days before people willingly left their bodies to science, surgeons stole them. The aftermath of judicial hangings was a competition between ?the relatives and the [surgical] students?the former to carry off the body intact, the latter to dissect it,? Christison wrote in his autobiography. ?Thus dissection was apt to be performed with indecent, sometimes with dangerous haste. It was no uncommon occurrence that, when the operator proceeded with his work, the body was sensibly warm, the limbs not yet rigid.? Hangings were sometimes ineffective, and the condemned survived. No wonder then that occasionally, in their rush, surgeons got it wrong and opened up a body to demonstrate its anatomy only to discover it was not yet a corpse.

Even if you're in less of a rush, simple observation has always been worryingly fallible when it comes to distinguishing life from death. When I was a junior doctor, I recall the hairs on the back of my neck slowly rising as I walked toward a patient's room. His family had just stopped me at the end of their visit, saying ?I think we'll come back tomorrow, we've been sitting with him for an hour and he's seemed awfully quiet.? He would forever remain that way. I found I often made the reverse mistake: Walking into the room of an elderly patient, it could take some time to recognize their stillness as that of sleep.

Preceding generations adopted technological aids to help them. Holding a mirror over a face to see if it misted up could be genuinely useful. The stethoscope?invented by a French doctor, Rene Laennec, who was embarrassed by putting his ear to his patient's bosom?meant that respiration and heart sounds could be listened for more accurately. All this helped, but it didn't fully solve the problem.

The precise division between life and death has always been unclear. In the 18th century, the chemistry of living (organic) and nonliving (inorganic) things was held to be fundamentally different. Into the former, God placed a spark of life?meaning that biochemical processes were absolutely different from the chemical reactions that could be created by mankind or the natural world. That belief was shown false in the 1820s, when a German chemist, Friedrich W?hler, synthesized the first organic molecules. But even today it lingers on: The vague way in which organic is used as a euphemism for healthy and good is its relic. Throughout the 19th century, the exact spark of life remained an object of great interest, and also of great doubt.

Discussions of the soul tended to lead nowhere, since that word meant so many different things to different people. It was hard to prove when the soul left the body because it was something whose nature and identity no one could agree on. Hence a favorite distinction between the living and the dead rested directly on the word of God. Leviticus 17:11 and 17:14 were clear: Blood?was the stuff of life. William Harvey, who discovered how blood circulated, wrote that it was ?the first to live and the last to die.? Blood was life. So long as it was liquid, life remained.

Hence Christison's alarm as he watched the surgeon cut into the warm body. ?Fluid blood gushed in abundance from the first incisions through the skin ? Instantly I seized [the surgeon's] wrist in great alarm, and arrested his progress; nor was I easily persuaded to let him go on, when I saw the blood coagulate on the table exactly like living blood.? Peer pressure overcame his qualms, however, and he not only released the surgeon but remained part of the attentive audience. He was convinced that the man was alive, but he became willing to watch all the same.

John Hunter, the greatest surgeon of the 18th century, also believed that those whose blood was liquid were still alive, yet he had no problem slicing their hearts out?or even, in the interests of science, tasting them. (Wishing to explore human sexual function, he acquired the corpse of a man who died in the moment before ejaculation. When held in the mouth, Hunter reported, the dead man's semen had a slightly spicy taste.) An appetite for knowledge has never been a guarantee of compassion or of respect for the wishes of the dead.

In the years since Hunter, though, these concerns have genuinely advanced. We're better at saying where life ends and better at honoring the physical remains and the last wishes of our fellows?which is not to say there isn't still room for improvement. For many decades, we accepted that people died when their heart stopped beating, that is, when it stopped circulating blood. Why did we hold onto that notion, even long after we understood that electrical activity was the fundamental substrate for our lives? Once more, the limitation was partly technical?a heartbeat is relatively easy to detect?and partly not. The idea that blood was the stuff of life lingered on, aided by the dual meaning of ?heart? it helped bequeath to our language and our thoughts. Did the body Christison saw being opened still have a beating heart? Was it, in any real way, alive? It certainly was in Cristison?s eyes, but whether it would have been in ours is harder to say.

Once we became confident about the primacy of electrical activity in the brain as the sign of life, we were able to be more positive. The need for donated organs pushed changes in our definition of death, especially because an organ-transplant recipient?s prospects for survival are much better when the organ is taken from a donor with a beating heart. In 1968, the wonderfully named Ad Hoc Committee of Harvard Medical School argued that death should no longer be regarded as occurring when the heart stopped, but when electrical activity ceased in the brain. Once that was gone, so was the person.

Venturi announces 300HP, ?300K America all-terrain EV, coming in 2014

Image

If you feel the need to rapidly hit the great outdoors without despoiling it, Venturi just may have your ride -- provided you have about $400,000 to spare. The company just launched the America EV at the Paris Auto Show, packing a 300HP powerplant, 53 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and projected 200 mile range to go along with the breathtaking price tag. Venturi's touting the car as more than just a smooth pavement flyer though, saying that it has a go-anywhere attitude with its high stance, generous clearance and tough carbon-fiber chassis. Still, if you want to go fast, the car can hit a top speed of 120 mph, and once you've burned off all the volts, can be fast charged in four hours, or ten from a 230V socket. Despite its off-road gumption, the rear-driver has considerable competition for sports EV dollars -- and a smooth road to its 2014 availability target is no given.

Embattled GOP Rep. Akin stays in Mo. Senate race

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) ? Embattled GOP Congressman Todd Akin has made good on his promise to stay in Missouri's U.S. Senate race despite calls by top Republicans to quit following his comments about rape.

The final deadline for candidates to remove their names from the Missouri ballot passed Tuesday as Akin began a statewide bus tour. Akin is challenging Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill.

Akin has repeatedly apologized since saying during an August television interview that women's bodies can avert pregnancy in cases of what he called "legitimate rape."

Top Republicans, including Mitt Romney, have urged him to drop out. He's also lost backing from the national GOP.

But late Tuesday, Missouri Sen. Roy Blunt, who'd called on Akin to quit last month, reversed himself, saying he and Akin agreed "the Senate majority must change."

Libyan president: Embassy attack was 'preplanned act of terrorism'

Libyan President Mohammed Magarief said the controversial film that mocked Islam's Prophet Muhammad and ignited protests throughout the Muslim world had "nothing to do" with the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, and that he has "no doubt" it was an act of terrorism.

"It's a preplanned act of terrorism directed at American citizens," Magarief told NBC's Ann Curry in an interview that aired Wednesday. "Reaction should have been, if it was genuine, should have been six months earlier. So it was postponed until the 11th of September. They chose this date, 11th of September, to carry a certain message."

Magareif said the "high degree of accuracy" in which the attack was executed?with rocket-propelled grenades and mortar shells?is proof that the assault was preplanned, and not carried out by inexperienced protesters. He said he believes "al-Qaida elements" were involved but stopped short of directly accusing the terrorist group of planning it.

Christopher Stevens, the U.S. ambassador to Libya, was among those killed in the attack, but Magareif said he did not know if Stevens was specifically targeted.

The Libyan leader said more than 40 people have been questioned in connection with the killings, but that it is too early to reveal the details of the ongoing investigation.

[Related: Obama: Libya attack 'wasn't just a mob action']

Magarief's comments came a day after President Barack Obama said the attack was more than mob violence, but stopped short of explicitly labeling the assault as an act of terrorism.

"There's no doubt that the kind of weapons that were used, the ongoing assault, that it wasn't just a mob action," the president said in an appearance on "The View."

On Tuesday, he denounced the anti-Islam video in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, calling the film "crude and disgusting."

Obama told world leaders that he could not simply ban it and scolded those who denounce anti-Muslim speech but stay quiet when the target is Christianity.

"The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam. But to be credible, those who condemn that slander must also condemn the hate we see in the images of Jesus Christ that are desecrated, churches are destroyed or the Holocaust is denied," Obama said, in an apparent reference to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Old Fashioned Networking for Business | businessfirstonline

says Carlo Pandian

There?s a lot of buzz around the internet these days for marketing and growing your business.? The computing revolution of the last twenty years has indeed made running your own business much easier than before and certainly made managing a business more efficient and simple.

The internet also offers a whole range of opportunities to market your firm through social networking, but oddly one site Meetup.com has taken a rather unusual angle on the social networking trend.? With Meet Up you actually get to meet your friends and make new ones.? If this sounds like a one of those sites it?s not, and it?s actually a great take on the social networking phenomena.

What is Meet Up?

Meet Up allows you to create or join groups.? Simple as that really; however these groups are not restricted to the virtual world and, in fact, only use the virtual world to manage the groups.? The meetings themselves are firmly located in the real world.? Groups are focussed on just about every interest and pursuit that you can imagine, from macram? to mountaineering, and the site really just operates as a central point of contact for people to locate groups in their area and then join in with the fun.

But is it just for hobbies?

Meet Up is very keenly focussed on ?hobbies? but that doesn?t mean that it?s only for this purpose.? You can set up and run just about any group you wish; this could be a marketing seminar, or any talk relevant to your industry.? Generally, it?s not effective to set up a sales type show, but works best when creating events that are likely to be of interest to your target demographic.

By finding groups that are relevant to your products in your area you can join up and set up a talk, event or simply a summer barbeque!? This type of event gives you the chance to ?market by stealth? but the hard sell variety will be a big turn off to the groups? users, so tread softly.

Meet Up Tools

There are simple tools on the Meet Up site which allow you to create lists of attendees, print name badges, send email reminders and create an RSPV system to help you manage the event smoothly.? The site offers you, effectively, the ability to access an events management team, without the need to actually hire one.? While it may be useful to hire event managers for larger, corporate events, this type of site allows you to hold less formal talks, seminars and events.

Target Groups

Depending on the industry you are in there may already be a Meet Up group to match in your area.? If this is the case then it?s worth joining and setting up an event that will interest users.? You can focus your efforts on targeting either potential customers or setting up a more B2B type session.? Both have advantages to grow your client base, with the former being the most obvious type to grow new business.? Corporate and B2B events should not, however, be discounted.

These can help to raise your profile with other local businesses, and can be especially useful if you target firms who operate in similar, but not the same, fields as your own firm.? This can create a number of opportunities for referrals and partnership working, which in the current economic climate are excellent ways to keep a healthy order book.

Old Tricks and New Technology

It?s strange, perhaps, that in the era of online social networking, that this type of site should have been created.? However, it just goes to show, that whatever the internet is, it?s no substitute for good old fashioned networking!

Strikeforce fighters compensated after fight cancellation

After Strikeforce canceled Saturday's events, fighters worried about their finances because they didn't have the fight pay day. The good news is that they still will receive some compensation from Zuffa, the parent company of the UFC and Strikeforce.

MMA Junkie confirmed that the fighters left without a bout will get their "show money," or the amount they would get for fighting regardless of the bout's outcome. As far as the sponsors who also add to their fight night payout, it's up to each individual sponsor on how they want to proceed.

[Kevin Iole: It's time for Showtime, Strikeforce to cut losses, move on]

Since finding out they didn't have a fight, a few fighters took advantage of not having to cut weight.

Gian Villante had to cut down from 240 to 205. He was in the 220 range when the fight was canceled. He headed to Taco Bell when he heard the news.

"If I'm going to be honest, the first thing I think is, alright, I'll just go to Taco Bell, but I don't want to go crazy," Villante said to MMA Fighting. "So I went with a cheesy gordita crunch with chicken, and they have this new thing, a Doritos taco shell, that just looked amazing. That was calling my name, I went for that one. I had about three of those. I went home and there was this veal parm hero that was in the fridge for about a week now that my brother left in the refrigerator. It's been looking at me for a week and it's just torture, so, I'm like you know what, I'm eating this thing. I ate half a veal parm hero that was a week old and didn't even taste good, and then I had about a half a gallon of ice cream, chocolate chip cookie dough."

That's downright astounding. Thank goodness he is being paid at least his show money, as he might need to stock up on some healthy food to make up for that binge.

British cleric to be extradited to US on terror charges

Four terrorists wanted on charges in the U.S. have lost their case at the European Court of Human Rights and will be extradicted to the US after years of legal battles. ITV's Lucy Manning reports

The European Court of Human Rights gave final approval on Monday for the extradition of one of Britain's most radical Islamist clerics and four others to the United States, where they face terrorism charges.

The decision caps a long legal battle and means Abu Hamza al-Masri could be extradited within weeks. Britain's Home Office, or interior ministry, said it would hand over the suspects "as quickly as possible."

The Egyptian-born al-Masri, 54, filed an appeal, along with the four other suspects, after the court in Strasbourg authorized Britain to transfer him to the United States on charges he supported al-Qaida and aided a fatal kidnapping in Yemen.

Al-Masri, who could face a sentence of more than 100 years in an ultrasecure "Supermax" prison, had argued such treatment would contravene Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which prohibits inhumane and degrading treatment.

"Today the Grand Chamber decided to reject the request. This means that the Chamber judgment of April 10, 2012, is now final," the court said in a statement.

The decision also concerned appeals lodged by four other defendants, Babar Ahmad, Syed Tahla Ahsan, Adel Abdul Bary and Khaled Al-Fawwaz, all of whom have been detained in Britain pending extradition to the United States.

A Home Office spokesman said that "we will work to ensure that the individuals are handed over to the U.S. authorities as quickly as possible."

The family of Ahmad called on the government to halt the extradition process, saying British prosecutors were in possession of the material that forms the basis of the U.S. indictment and should pursue the case in Britain.

Al-Masri is one of the most radical Islamists in Britain, a country he has attacked for its support of U.S.-led wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The one-eyed radical with a metal hook for a hand has praised the September 11, 2001, attacks, and was once a preacher at a North London mosque but was later convicted of inciting murder and racial hatred. He is being held in a British jail.

He was indicted in 2004 by a federal grand jury in New York, accused of providing material support to al-Qaida and of involvement in a hostage-taking in Yemen in 1998 in which four hostages -- three Britons and one Australian -- were killed.

He was also accused of providing material support to al-Qaida by trying to set up a training camp for fighters in Oregon and of trying to organize support for the Taliban in Afghanistan.

News and Society Blog-Energy: A Summer of Fluctuating Fortunes ...

ByGraham N Paul

Tough economic forces and lousy summer weather seem to be determined to try and take charge of the wholesale energy supply market. Prices tumbled throughout the middle of June to new lows. Annual gas prices are now 15% lower than the same time last year, while annual power prices fell to a two-year low and are 22% down year-on-year.

Falling power prices dragged annual spark spreads down 7% to ?3.4/MWh, and even that reliable stalwart coal is having a hard time of things, with slipping prices buffering the fall of dark spreads slightly to a ?17.9/MWh premium to spark spreads.

So what's been setting off these price crashes? Well, concerns about debt in the Eurozone nations hasn't helped. Greece lurches from crisis to crisis and even the election of a new government is doing little to allay fears about its long-term future. But it's slowing economic growth in the US and China that has really pushed international energy markets downwards. Brent crude oil tumbled to $97.6/bl, its lowest level since January 2011, and annual API coal dropped to a new 20-month low of $95.4/t.

However, all of this is good news for consumers. While we may be missing out on that 'BBQ summer' the forecasters promised us, both domestic and commercial end-users have seen energy prices drop in real terms. A fall in inflation has also helped to stabilise the retail market, but the big difference has been at the pumps, where motorists have finally started to see the numbers on the forecourts going down instead of up. This, combined with lower electricity and gas costs, has given the British economy a short respite, during which it has a chance to push up production and keep the fragile heart of UK PLC beating for a while longer.

Biomass - holding the fort?

Ironically, it's been the biomass market that has held the fort. Despite biomass contracts dropping, with prices for 2013 down 1% to ?88.5/t, prices are still around 6% higher than this time last year. They've recovered from their four-year low and are at their highest level for five months. This boost has been helped in no small measure with the approval of the plans for a 40MW staw-fuelled biomass plant in Snetterton, Norfolk, which have finally been given the go-ahead.

The weather outside is frightful...

The real headline grabber throughout June and into July has been the atrocious weather the UK has experienced. Lower than average June temperatures and storm after storm has resulted in a rise in UK gas demand. Supply peaked at 223.1mcm on 11th June, in the middle of the bad weather. Industry watchers believe that the unseasonably bad weather has encouraged many people to do something they wouldn't normally do in June - they turned the heating up. The result was that although the national system decreased 0.1%, the regional system climbed 2.2%. To date, summer demand (measured from April 1st) was down 7.8% on the national system but up a staggering 31.1% on the regional system, compared to the same time last year.

What this indicates is that while gas demand for power generation is down year-on-year, consumption by households and small businesses has risen. This means that gas consumption is acting as a barometer for the productiveness of the UK economy and while the big users may be struggling, homes and businesses are continuing to ride out the worst of the economic storm, putting a more positive face on what has been a difficult few months.

How prices will fare in the next few weeks will depend on three things - the resolution (or otherwise) of the Eurozone crisis, and the economic condition of the US and China. If they start to wobble you could see prices start to climb back up again.

Since 2000, their electricity pricing system - part of ERS (Energy Retail Suite) has enabled energy retailers with powerful and highly competitive IT systems, transforming customer experience, improving business efficiency, reducing costs and boosting profits.

Community Opinion: Blade and Soul B2P or P2P? - MMOsite

We all know of the mystery subscription plan regarding NCSoft's upcoming action mmog Blade and Soul.

Following the launch of the western site for the game, in NCSoft's Q&A section, this was stated:

How much will Blade & Soul cost? Will there be a subscription fee, or will Blade & Soul utilize the microtransaction business model?

As the launch date draws nearer, we will have more information to share on price and business models. However NCsoft is actively evaluating what gaming fans in Europe and the United States want, and we are committed to creating a business model that will meet our fans' expectations.

Meaning that NCSoft is willing to listen to EU and NA followers of the game. With the recent success of GuildWars 2 and it's B2P model, should Blade and Soul (As well as future NCSoft MMOs) follow GW2's transaction model?

Pay to Play: is currently a dying breed in the mmo world (Ex. SWTOR, TERA, FFXIV, TSW) No one wants to spend money on games that don't deliver in content and far too easy to hit level cap, most of these have cash-shops that give advantages in-game despite the monthly fee on top, and if you are unable to pay the free, your access to the game is restricted until you pay to play it again, a lot of mmos released this year on this model due to severe lack of content and have turned, or are turning F2P. The exceptions being FFXI (10 years)?and WOW (9 years) still going strong in this model.

Buy to Play: Are a rare breed of mmo and only the Guild Wars franchise has seen huge success with this model, allowing players to play forever after buying the game with the option of buying aesthetically pleasing costumes that give no advantages in the game,, this plan can compete with P2P titles due to the aesthetical cash-shops and yearly expansions as a source of profitability players are able to have an equal advantage on content.

Free to Play: The model that currently saturates the market, a majority of games using this model are Pay 2 Win, buying items from cash-shops that give players advantages over other players who choose not to buy these items and would rather have equal advantage.

Hybrid Model: This model is fairly new, it uses the notion of limited content to players who don't subscribe to experience all of the game and limits a player's level if you choose the free to play option. Players who continue to subscribe to these models get to experience all content available in the game, while players who play free get left behind at a capped level are unable to advance.

Conservative fund considers backing Mo. Rep. Akin

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) ? A conservative fundraising group that had shied away from Missouri Rep. Todd Akin is now seriously considering whether to come to the embattled Republican's aid in his challenge to Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill, an official with the group said Monday.

The Senate Conservatives Fund, which has raised more than $11 million for other Republican Senate candidates, could provide a much-needed financial boost for Akin, who is facing a Tuesday deadline on whether to stay in the race. Akin has vowed to remain in the contest. Appearing Monday at a Kirkwood, Mo., rally with former presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich, Akin said there had been discussions with the super PAC but no official agreement.

The group previously had shied away from Akin, in part, because of his past use of spending earmarks to direct federal money to specific local projects. Earmarks now are banned in the Republican-controlled House, and Senate Republicans have voted not to use them.

In the primary, Akin aired an ad that touted a life saved by federal funding that some considered an earmark. But in a statement to The Associated Press last week, Akin said he backs a prohibition on earmarks in some circumstances.

"I support a ban on earmarks that are inserted in the dark of night or that are used by party leaders to buy support for their wasteful spending bills," Akin said in the written statement. "However, I want to make sure that Congress does its constitutional duty and retains the power of the purse rather than giving unelected bureaucrats all the power in Washington, D.C."

McCaskill, a vocal opponent of earmarks, suggested Akin had changed his position on earmarks in attempt to get campaign cash.

Akin's campaign, which was hosting a fundraiser Monday with former Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, is hoping to capitalize financially this week by demonstrating his resolve to remain in the race despite calls by some top Republicans that he quit after making inflammatory remarks about rape and pregnancy.

"There's no poll that shows this race is impossible," Gingrich said Monday. "I believe by mid-October all of them (Republican supporters) will be in."

Tuesday is the deadline for Missouri candidates to get a court order if they wish to drop out of the race. Akin has other plans for the day ? a campaign bus tour.

Republican leaders are not expected to pitch in. But Akin could get some other help, from a political action committee built in part by tea party star Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina.

The Senate Conservatives Fund had remained neutral in Missouri's Republican Senate primary, which Akin won in early August. But since then, Akin has discussed and clarified his position on earmarks with the organization, one official said.

"Our understanding is he supports an earmark ban," Matt Hoskins, director of the Senate Conservatives Fund, said Monday.

Hoskins said the group is looking "very seriously" at supporting Akin, because it appears he will not drop out, still has a good shot at defeating McCaskill and generally aligns ideologically with the organization.

Akin has apologized repeatedly since a TV interview aired Aug. 19 in which he suggested that women's bodies have a natural defense against pregnancy in cases of "legitimate rape." After that remark, Akin lost the financial support of the Republican National Committee, the Republican senators' political committee and the deep-pocketed Crossroads group affiliated with Republican strategist Karl Rove. That nixed millions of dollars of planned TV advertising.

Since then, Akin has raised nearly $600,000 through a small-dollar, online appeal that has cast his candidacy as an anti-establishment crusade against both Republican Party bosses and President Barack Obama's administration.

During the primary, Akin had been criticized by Republican rivals for supporting earmarks. Akin responded with a TV ad in which the wife of a military veteran said her husband's life was saved by a newly armored Humvee financed at Akin's initiative through "what some call earmarks."

The Senate Conservative Fund supports a ban or moratorium on earmarks that use legislation to direct a specific amount of money for a specific purpose in a certain state or congressional district.

Akin's campaign said Friday that his position on earmarks "is not in conflict with" the ban on earmarks sought by DeMint, who helped build the Senate Conservatives Fund into a formidable fundraising organization for its favored candidates. McCaskill has co-sponsored that legislation with DeMint and her vocal opposition to earmarks has often put her at odds with her own party's leadership.

McCaskill's campaign suggested that Akin has shifted his views on earmarks in hopes of getting money for his Senate campaign.

"What kind of Washington politician runs an ad defending earmarks in the primary, then two months later, turns around and changes his position on a dime, for a dime? This is exactly the kind of transactional politics that makes people sick," said McCaskill spokesman Caitlin Legacki.
