High blood pressure and hypertension are very common in adult people but in recent years several cases of high blood pressure have been detected in infants and neonates. Specialized medical supplies are required to check the blood pressure of infants and to keep it under control. Such babies are kept in highly intensive care units and doctors check their blood pressure continuously. The problem may arise due to premature birth. Premature babies face many health problems and hypertension is also among these problems. There can be many other reasons of high blood pressure in infants. High blood pressure in infants can be due to some kidney problem and this problem needs to be treated soon. Sometimes hypertension is genetic and such babies require special care and attention. Heart diseases are also common in infancy and some of these diseases are genetic in nature. If the mother takes too much of tobacco during pregnancy the infant can develop high blood pressure. Mothers should take great care in the selection of diet in pregnancy and they should adopt a healthy lifestyle to avoid any risks of high blood pressure in infants. Some infants face thyroid problems after birth and they need special medicines to treat hyperthyroidism.
