PGA Catalunya Resort?s Stadium Course remains Spain?s No.1 Golf Course in 2013

Underlying its reputation as the home of Spain?s No.1 golf course*, PGA Catalunya Resort near Barcelona continues to attract a growing number of travelling golfers from across Europe, reporting a 3% rise in the number of rounds played during 2012.

With more than 45,000 rounds on its Tour Course and world-renowned Stadium Course, which remains No. 1 in Spain in 2013 on respected rankings website www.top100golfcourses.co.uk, PGA Catalunya Resort?s increase in trade has been driven by the UK, Scandinavian and French markets.

Significantly, rounds played by UK golfers rose by 34% in 2012, helped by PGA Catalunya Resort?s strengthening partnership with key tour operators in the region. The developing golf markets of Norway and Finland also saw numbers rise by over 30%, whilst rounds played by French golfers rose by 10%.

Miguel Girbes, Director of Golf at PGA Catalunya Resort, said: ?Given the delicate nature of Spain?s economy we are encouraged by our 2012 results. Whilst there has been a trend to reduce green fees to attract new customers, PGA Catalunya Resort has been able to grow its international market share thanks to the reputation of the Stadium Course and significant investment across all areas of the business.?

The 36-hole resort, just a five-minute drive from Girona-Costa Brava airport and a one-hour drive from Barcelona International airport, continues to be a first-choice destination for many corporate competitions, hosting major finals for key global brands including BMW, Audi, Canal+ and banking group La Caixa.

Last year also saw PGA Catalunya Resort open the world?s first SergioGarciaJuniorGolfAcademy, the Spanish golfer?s first teaching academy, and announce a three-year partnership with the European Tour, which sees the Qualifying School Final Stage return to the two-time Spanish Open venue until at least 2014.

?Our business strategy for the year ahead focuses on increasing our awareness among golfers from across Europe and the world, as well as underlining our status as a World Top 100 venue and, more importantly, Spain?s number one course,? Miguel Girbes concluded.
