Assemblyman Joe Borelli will host the seminar at Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. Church, Huguenot.
Financial aid officers and bursars from the College of Staten Island and the State University of New York will be on hand to take questions regarding potential aid packages for any students, and can also answer specific tuition questions about the CUNY and SUNY systems, according to Borelli's office.
"Since the advancement of DREAM Act legislation in the Assembly, my office has been contacted by numerous people essentially saying they're unhappy with financial aid options for all people," Borelli said in a statement. "I hope this helps a little bit."
Borelli is a graduate of Marist College, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and earned a master's from CSI, where he is an adjunct political science professor.
"Higher education is a critical choice for students and their parents alike," Borelli said.
"Few concerns factor into that choice more than cost. As someone who worked two jobs to make sure my parents and I could make the bills, I know how financial aid packages can make all the difference."
Many young people enter the workforce with large amounts of debt after college due to student loan borrowing, Borelli said.
"Families have to make informed choices, and I'm glad to be partnering with the College of Staten Island to help prospective and aspiring college students understand the benefits available to them," he said.
The fair will be Monday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea, 5411 Amboy Rd.
